Q: Why choose to get my horse massaged?

A: Massage plays and important role in prevention and relief of stress and recovery of injury, by evaluating the whole horse, not just targeting one area or system.

Q: When is massage not right for my horse?

A: You should not have massage therapy performed on a horse that is exhibiting signs of serious illness or injury. A horse that has cancer should also not be worked on due to the realse of toxins in the blood stream. An examination by a veterinarian should be performed prior to the first massage to rule out any illness.

Q: How does sports massage help my horse?

A: Massage techniques will relax an excited horse, producing a calming effect for trailor loading, or handling by the vet or farrier. It also aids in the release of toxin build-up and increases oxygen which in turn increases metabolism and shortens recuperation time.

Q: What horses benefit from massage?

A: From stall-bound horses to top performers, all horses will benefit from a massage.

Q: What kind of injuries or conditions are treatable through massage?

A: Various lamenesses, caused by tightness of muscles and tendons. With unique problems where the horse is responding adversely to their riders requests, an equine massage therapist can frequently find problems on the horse that might be aggravated with a new saddle, rider, or type of movement.

Q: How many treatments does it take to see results?

A: For acute conditions (less than 1 month old) it usually takes 3-7 treatments of massage and stretching to return the horse to full performance. For chronic condtions (older than 1 month) it really depends on the condition and severity. The closer the treatments are, the faster the healing response.
